About Bret Philpot

Los Angeles born and Southern California raised artist Bret Philpot creates acrylic and mixed media based paintings and sculptures that ride the fence between organic earthiness and organized structure; a contradiction he embraces. His creative themes can range from pure bold abstraction, building structures, historic Anglo and Native American inspirations, love, personal spirituality and mandalas to political injustice. Philpot has a lot going on beyond his studio, whether painting live in front of a few thousand people at a music festival (his favorite being Joshua Tree Music Festival), biking around the northern New Mexico landscape or even in the past photographing graffiti in Damascus, Syria. He has lived life at full volume. Recently transplanting from the Southern California desert to historic Old Town Albuquerque,. We shall see how the New Mexico environment translates through his art. Perhaps the Desert Sun said it best; "Stale. Common. Boring. Three terms you will never hear associated with Bret Philpot's paintings'.
